Seminar presented by Loreta Calzaretta
Loreta Calzaretta, from the l’Universit a degli Studi di Salerno, has presented in the cycle of seminars of AYeconomics in collaboration with GAME, titled Do inward FDIs in ICT stimulate the regional specialisation in high-tech technologies? Evidence from European regions.
The main conclusions of this seminar are that “it was found that inward foreign investments occurring in ICT sector can significantly affect the regional capability to specialize in nanotech, biotech, pharmaceutical and medical patent applications, which are considered in the current debate as fundamental drivers of regional competitiveness. The results of this work show that the sectoral specialization of foreign-owned companies matters for the innovative outcome of the host economies in the most technological fields. As policy implication, the authors suggest that EU government policies towards inward FDIs should to be aimed at targeted sectors in order to benefit from them in terms of development of enabling and innovative technologies at regional level.”
